Garden Plants on a Budget

I always like to find new plants for my garden but rarely do I pay full price for them. As with just baout everything else these days, I feel the price of plants can be a bit on the pricy side.

So how do you get great garden plants when you are on a budget? You want your garden to look lush and green but don’t want to part with green backs.

Here are a couple of tips that I use to find interesting and budget plants. Some can even be free.

My favorite one is plant sharing. Do you have gardening friends? If you do then get together with them and share your plants. If you are dividing plants or thinning them, take them to your gardening frinds in exchange for some of theirs. Just make the agreement in advance or simply start giving them yours and they will in turn give you some of their garden plants as well. This is a great way to not only get some new plants but you can exchange gardening ideas as well.

A really fun and cool way to find no cost plants is to visit old home sites. If you know someone who has some land and maybe an old home site, take a walk over the land and you can usually find plants that you can add to your garden growing around where an old house once stood. I have found lots of irises, nandina and day lilies on old home sites.

You could start a plant exchange group similar to a farmer’s market. Flea markets can offer some great treasures and garden plants are among them.

Use your gardening imagination and I’m sure you can come up with many other ways to find garden plants to fit any budget.

Have fun and get your hands dirty in your garden.

  • Great tip…my pops always said The best way to garden is to put on a wide-brimmed straw hat and some old clothes. And with a hoe in one hand and a cold drink in the other, tell somebody else where to dig.”

Thanks for the help…my grandpa always said “A weed is a plant that has mastered every survival skill except for learning how to grow in rows.
